SWGi (www.swgi.ca) seeks a specialized client-oriented, legal admin professional for this exciting position with a downtown legal firm.

As a Business Development Specialist in the firm’s Client Development Department, you will reporti to and be working closely with the Toronto Regional Client Development Manager. This position will be responsible for all administrative and strategic requirements in support of a national proposal services function; liaising with other business development and marketing communications professionals to maintain tracking reports, databases, and to ensure important content is kept current. 

This position will also help with business development tasks associated with practice group and lawyer planning including updating client and prospect lists, tracking activities and follow-up. 

Major Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Analyze proposals against Firm guidelines and recommend course of action.
  • Coordinate strategy meetings with lawyers and administrative staff and follow-up on key tasks.
  • Conduct or coordinate market research as needed for proposals and presentations.
  • Write original content to assist lawyers in producing a customized response (in print and presentations).
  • Select appropriate “boilerplate”, co-ordinate multiple drafts and ensure a high level of quality control prior to delivery of a proposal.
  • Liaise with knowledge management lawyers and marketing communications team to ensure relevant lawyer profiles, boilerplate and technical documents are well-written and kept current.
  • Maintain our internal, online proposal centre for resources, precedents, tips, etc.
  • Produce management reports and conduct regular follow-up calls with partners to track results.
  • Conduct proposal de-briefs with clients/prospects.
  • Keep current on best industry practices.
  • Support initiatives related to practice group and lawyer business development planning including updating client and prospect lists, tracking activities and follow-up.
  • Support projects related to enhancing the Firm’s business development platform.
  • Maintain confidentiality of Firm, employee and client information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

Education and Experience:

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree, with a minimum of 3 years of marketing experience within a large, professional services environment. Previous experience as a member of a larger proposal response team is considered an asset.  An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be acceptable.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • superior written and verbal communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills;
  • exceptional client service orientation;
  • project management skills with ability to handle and prioritize multiple assignments and work with interruptions under tight deadlines;
  • analytical abilities and attention to detail;
  • proficiency with computers and all MS Office 2007 applications (especially Excel and PowerPoint);
  • general knowledge of the law firm business and/or partnership organizations would be helpful
  • flexibility with work hours is required (including ability to work overtime on an urgent basis)
